The Travel Standards Board manages the development of standards concerning any interaction between airlines and any other partners involved in the delivery of a product or service to a customer.

This includes but is not limited to passenger experience, passenger airport processes, departure management activities, and the relationship between airlines and government agencies controlling facilitation or receiving passenger information.

This also includes operational processes supporting the delivery of passenger services: ground handling and airport handling standards, airside safety, and baggage handling.

Common Use Working Group

Deals with matters concerning:

  • Common Use Self-Services (RP1706c)
  • Common Use Passenger Processing Systems (RP1797)
  • Bar Coded Boarding Pass (Resolution 792)
  • Common Use Web Services (RP1741)
  • IATA Technical Peripheral Specifications (ITPS) - formerly known as AEA Specifications

The group reviews and endorses proposals to create or amend standards governing these processes. Common Use Group liaises with other processes owning groups under any Conference and advisory groups, as well as with other bodies like A4A and ACI.

Facilitation Working Group

Deals with matters related to passenger facilitation and reviews and improves industry standards with respect to:

  • Border control and immigration
  • Border Security
  • One ID and Identity management
  • Passenger biometric process
  • Maintains the messaging standards for the transmission of API and PNR between airlines and governments.  
  • Accessibility
  • Disruption Management

Baggage Working Group

The Baggage Group was established by the Travel Board  to review and develop Resolutions and Recommended Practices that can be adopted by the Travel Board and eventually by the Passenger Services Conference (PSC).

The majority of these changes occur from examination of baggage operations, processes and management to promote effective operations and collaborations among Airlines and stakeholders for the benefit of the industry, by reviewing and developing Resolutions and Recommended Practices (RPs).

Objectives:

 

  • Deal with matters concerning passenger baggage processes.
  • Review and endorse proposals to create or amend standards governing these processes. Ensure that proposals align with existing standards, and that requirements are documented with a corresponding change to Implementation Guidance where applicable.
  • Review and improve industry standards with respect to reducing interline baggage mishandling as regards to baggage messages, and bag tag construction.
  • Identify any cross-functional issues related to baggage messaging that need to be resolved outside the BWG, and Liaise with other process owning groups under any Conference, and advisory groups under Industry Committees as required.
  • Maintain a work plan and report regularly to Travel Board.

Departure Control System Working Group

  • Deals with matters concerning passenger DCS processes
  • Review and endorse proposals to create or amend standards governing these processes. Ensure that proposals align with existing standards, and that requirements are documented with a corresponding change to Implementation Guide where applicable
  • Review and endorse proposals to amend Resolution 708, and RPs 1706a, 1706b, 1707a-1719e

Fuel Data Standards Working Group

  • Deals with matters concerning the development and maintenance of data standards to facilitiate aviation fuel processes in an efficient and effective manner, including the associated business requirements
  • Reviews and endorses proposals to maintain/amend:

    • Fuel Transaction Standard
    • Fuel Operational Standard
    • Fuel Code Directory

Aviation Information Data Exchange Working Group

Deals with matters concerning the development and maintenance of messaging standards to support the efficient and effective exchange of operational flight data across the aviation industry.

Adoption of this industry data standard deliver substantial benefits to all stakeholders involved: 

  • Improved data quality and accuracy
  • Support for A-CDM implementations
  • Support for disruptive event use cases
  • Increased flexibility/lower cost of integration with applications supporting an AIDX interface
  • Increased agility in managing/modernizing a portfolio of operational applications with a standard AIDX interface
  • Reduced numbers/simplification of IT adaptors needed for the exchange of e-data with business partners
  • Leveraging of open-source XML tools to process and analyze operational data
